General information about the Perm region
The region of Perm was founded on December 1, 2005 as a result of the unification of the Perm region and Komi-Permyak Autonomous District based on the results of the referendum December 7, 2003. Historical predecessor of the region was the Perm province formed in 1796, which, in its turn, was preceded by the Great Perm province.
The Perm Territory is located in the western spurs of the Ural Mountains. Historically and geographically, it is closely connected with the Urals, but when federal districts were created in the 2000s, it was administratively assigned to the Volga region, becoming part of the Volga Federal District.
